Process & Procedure Documentation Examples
Too many organizations still rely on simple shared folders/drives and paper documents to manage their operations. Optimum performance requires all digital, interlinked systems that are easy to navigate and update.
I created this example as part of a training course to demonstrate basic process modeling and documentation methods. The full course detailed process discovery, modeling, improvement, measurement and final documentation. Continuous process improvement was addressed with techniques of process capture using a survey template and its results as examples. A critical part of the course taught students how to group activities into processes that were supported by more detailed procedures, which simplified both documentation and training. The course further emphasized the benefits of role-based training to provide specific guidance and information dependent on each person's responsibilities in a process or procedure.
The samples use templates originally created for Customs & Border Protection to reduce the size of their procedural templates from an average of 30 pages to one page. These templates have been propogated across various offices within the federal government.
